The Faurecia company, which has a branch in Mouzon, is one of the major automotive suppliers in the world and works in four areas: automobile seats, emission control technologies and automobile interior and exterior systems.

Established 1997, Faurecia has gone from strength to strength to become a key player in the automobile industry worldwide.

With 330 sites including 30 research and development centres in 34 countries, Faurecia is the leading global manufacturer of seat frames and mechanisms, emission control systems and vehicle interiors and world no. 3 in the manufacture of complete seat assemblies, as well as world no. 1 for automobile exteriors.

Mouzon won the JEC Europe 2015 innovation prize thanks to Flaxpreg, as part of a collaborative research project funded by the Champagne-Ardenne region, in collaboration with the Start-up Lineo, the GRESPI laboratory of the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne and PSA Peugeot-Citroën.

Flaxpreg is a light composite reinforced with long linen fibres and offers a technological solution in the race to lighten vehicles. Thanks to its low density, it has excellent mechanical properties for reducing mass by 35%, as compared to traditional solutions.

With Flaxpreg, Faurecia’s main target is the market for vehicle boot floor structures, which are dominated by more traditional materials. But it is envisaging other applications: boot shelves, door covers and seat back covers. The first serial Flaxpreg applications are planned for 2018.
