Kinetec: service, technology and the environment are the keys to successful growth

Located in Tournes in French Ardennes, Kinetec has been developing world-renowned rehabilitation devices for more than 40 years.

Successful diversification

Originally, the company exclusively manufactured orthopaedic traction frames. In 1978, the founder, Jean-Claude Pecheux, released a knee rehabilitation device based on Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) therapy, which became the benchmark in the field. After several takeovers by American groups, French Ardennes manufacturer was able to expand internationally. Today, the company exports to more than 90 countries, and 85% of its turnover comes from abroad. It has a subsidiary in the United States and another in United Kingdom. Part of the Belgian Medfac group, Kinetec is constantly expanding its range of products under different brands: Kinetec®, from orthopaedic traction to active motion therapy; Manosplint®, for the occupational therapy and orthopaedic support industry; and Dr Aktive®, which includes devices and consumables for thermotherapy (treatment using heat and cold), orthopaedic insoles/shoes and compression stockings.

Innovation: a driver of development

The SME is constantly innovating to offer new and high-quality medical solutions suiting new consumption patterns. To ensure that French Ardennes company can continue to thrive long into the future, it has been developing customisable immobilisation splints; rehabilitation devices equipped with entertainment systems; and even a mobile application to track the prescribed protocol and share developments with the practitioner (which has proved very useful during the health crisis, as rehabilitation centres have been struggling with a lack of availability). For its various endeavours in 2020, the company was recognised in the Industry category at the Trophées Ardenne Métropole awards.

Kinetec Kinevia™: a new flagship product?

During the health crisis, Kinetec SAS was also inspired to create a new dedicated production line for its rehabilitation bike (CE med certified). With the support of the Grand Est region, the company invested in a handling gantry to allow a single person to handle the product effortlessly and in complete safety. The Kinetec Kinevia™ is a therapeutic trainer for the arms and legs, designed to help patients recovering from orthopaedic surgery (prostheses, ligament repairs) and people with neurological conditions (Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, strokes, etc.) to maintain and develop muscle strength, reduce spasms, and stimulate their metabolism and blood circulation. Manufactured in small batches, this device is seeing growing success, and production has tripled in the last few months.

Over the years, French Ardennes company and its 33 employees have built trusting relationships with customers all over the world, backed by the reliability and longevity of their products, as well as their responsiveness and ability to adapt. With the Kinevia™, Kinetec is entering new markets. To meet demand, the company plans to expand its production site and recruit new employees.

Ideally located in terms of access to the major European capitals, companies in French Ardennes rely heavily on exports (positive trade balance for more than 10 years: 157%). This area is widely recognised in the industrial field and more specifically in metallurgy, home to numerous dynamic and innovative world-renowned SMEs..
