NEXANS POWER ACCESSORIES FRANCE: from energy networks to charging stations

The French and international group NEXANS is a historical, global player in the field of cables and accessories. With three locations in the Ardennes, NEXANS INTERFACE in Vrigne-aux-Bois (components for telecommunications networks), NEXANS FRANCE in Fumay (production of network cables) and NEXANS POWER ACCESSORIES FRANCE in Donchery (connection equipment for energy networks), the group is also a major stakeholder in the local industrial fabric.

The Doncherois production site, NEXANS POWER ACCESSORIES FRANCE, lies at the very core of the group's new strategy, implemented 2 years ago by the CEO of NEXANS Christopher Guérin, whose primary objective is to develop and reorient the company’s activities towards products and services with high added value. The Ardennes unit’s technical skills and know-how is proven by its one-of-a-kind COFRAC-certified training centre for electrical network technicians.

A winning strategy for the French industrialist. In fact, despite a small dip in activity in the spring of 2020 during the first lockdown, NEXANS Donchery managed to (out)perform by the end of the year, almost entirely compensating for the lack of activity in the 2nd quarter. It owed its success mainly to a new market that was gained by Enedis, its main client, its growing Export activity, particularly in the Middle East, but also because of all the teams who were able to adapt quickly to the new work constraints that were in force. The site is now fully operational and employs 130 permanent staff and around 30 temporary workers on average. Despite the prevailing economic uncertainty, the outlook for 2021 is positive for NEXANS POWER ACCESSORIES FRANCE.

In addition to its connection business for energy networks, NEXANS Donchery also has an innovative subsidiary, NEXANS ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING SOLUTIONS (EVCS). This is a valuable branch with significant growth potential, just like the sector in which it operates, electric mobility. In accordance with the group's overall strategy, EVCS can provide a full service, including design, manufacture and technical support across a whole range of electric charging stations. These Ardennes-made charging stations are the very same used for the entire electric charging station fleet in Ardenne Métropole urban community (149 stations installed). As a sure sign that it is on the right track, EVCS has just taken on a new contract for the company EIFFAGE, and will be installing 90 charging stations in the underground car park at the company's Paris headquarters.

The development of technologies for tomorrow’s transport is a major challenge. French Ardennes region is already emerging as a pioneering territory in this industrial sector of the future, developing a whole body of knowledge and skills in this area.
