Cabaret Vert: the festival all about "co-existing well"

With its local and cross-border dimensions, Cabaret Vert (created in French Ardennes in 2005) is the Grand Est region's biggest festival. It is also one of the 10 largest contemporary music festivals in France, with 102,000 attendees in 2019.

Right from its early days, the FLaP association has built up this music festival with a focus on sustainable development and solidarity. For the event held from 22 to 25 August 2019, all festival contributors, providers, partners and volunteers signed up to the "Sustainable Cabaret Commitments 2019-2025", with certain long-term goals and others to achieve from this year: offering healthy and sustainable catering, recycling, controlling energy consumption, combatting discrimination, supporting cultural diversity, etc.

Cabaret Vert has already started taking action in this vein. For example, to minimise its carbon footprint, the festival is increasing its renewable energy use with the Enercoop cooperative, aiming for half of its power to come from renewable sources by 2025. The festival also promotes training and employment through a partnership with the CFA-BTP building apprentice training centre and by organising "job dating" sessions.

Cabaret Vert's values are a key reason for its growing success. Individuals (over 2,000 volunteers), companies and local stakeholders (350 private and public partners) help make sure it runs smoothly each year. However, Cabaret remains first and foremost a festival, with a varied programme of music and all kinds of cultural activities (street art, comics, cinema, etc.).

When it comes to tourism and the economy, French Ardennes region draws strength from its ability to rally and innovate while protecting the environment, all with a friendly and dynamic vibe.
