Additive manufacturing in the Ardennes

The first "additive manufacturing & metal trades" symposium, organised on November 26th 2015 by Materalia, at the Charleville-Mézières “pôle technologique”, was an opportunity to present the new regional platform for additive manufacturing, called Platinium 3D.

Every part of the value chain of additive manufacturing can be found in the Ardennes, from design and simulation (Micado DINCCS), material R&D (CRITT-MDTS, Materalia cluster), research and education (University of Reims Champagne Ardenne and IFTS, Lycée François Bazin - the centre of the Campus of Trades and Skilled Processes and Innovative Materials of Champagne-Ardenne) and, of course, the network of businesses supported by the UIMM, the CCI, state services and other partners, all working together.

The regional-scale platform based in the Ardennes aims to become the basis of an "ecosystem" to position the area as an industry player of the future, linked with business, but also with education and research.

To be able to meet the needs of industry, the target technology will be a part of the development processes for metal parts and sand cores for smelting works.

Several projects have already begun in collaboration with local companies and there is no doubt that Platinium 3D will allow the entire industrial network to adopt this new technology, allowing companies to adress new markets and develop their businesses.
