Campus Sup Ardenne: the ambitious project is now a reality
The new Campus Sup Ardenne in Charleville-Mézières was officially inaugurated on 13 September 2019, opening its doors to university students (over 2,000 to date) and offering high-quality teaching in an attractive and functional setting.
Supported by the Ardenne Métropole urban community, the Grand Est region, Ardennes Department, Ardennes CCI [Chamber of Commerce] and Reims Champagne-Ardenne University, the project has been designed to make higher education in French Ardennes more visible, expand the offering and improve students' study and living environments. The Campus Sup Ardenne is an architectural and urban transformation project with three new buildings: the Chamber of Commerce training hub, the extended IUT RCC technology centre and, above all, the Maison du Campus union building and its cafeteria, which is set to become the place for all local students to spend time and meet up. A 10-acre landscaped park links up the different facilities. The entire project has had a sustainable focus: material choices, thermal performance of buildings, rainwater harvesting, etc.
The Campus Sup Ardenne specialises in key fields linked with the local and regional economy, such as materials processing. The recently created EiSINe (Industrial and Digital Sciences Engineering School) is consolidating existing renowned research and skills centres like the CRITT MDTS and Platinium 3D (industrial additive manufacturer). The Campus Sup Ardenne also has strong ambitions in the fields of wind and nuclear energy. A partnership agreement has recently been signed with EDF, which will strengthen and develop these high-potential areas in the coming years. This campus is just the start of a new offering that will boost the department and its economy, aiming to keep those who want to undertake higher education in French Ardennes and attract students from elsewhere as proof of the region's dynamism and vitality.
Higher education, research and innovation are key to economic development and attractiveness. With this new campus, French Ardennes are embarking on a new dynamic and asserting their goal of improving the region's competitiveness.
