The Ardennes - going with the flow
Well known for the Meuse river valley and its meandering curves, the Ardennes is an ideal setting for river tourism.
In the recent years various pieces of infrastructure and services have been developed to facilitate the discovery of the department's wonderful landscapes along the path of the river (cruises, electric boat rental, yacht with skipper…). The recent launch of the Charlemagne boat in Givet, with its culinary cruises in particular, is an actual testimony to this dynamism.
Stops along the river, often located at the heart of the towns and cities, feature a comprehensive range of services and facilities: electrical outlets, toilet blocks, water refuelling terminals, tennis courts, bike hire...
On account of its geographical locations, the Meuse river allows to travel towards the Netherlands, through Belgium, while taking in the wild and craggy sites of the Ardennes Massif.
It is also possible to go by boat through the Ardennes Canal, which links the slopes of Champagne with the Meuse, or via the Eastern Canal, towards Lorraine and Verdun.
